Cancelled - The GiG Malta Marathon is this weekend

21 February, 2019

Update: The Malta Marathon Organizing Committee together with its safety officers have taken the unfortunate decision to cancel the 2019 GiG Malta Marathon. This decision is based on the current weather conditions and the forecast for tomorrow that indicates a further deterioration. This decision has been taken in the interest of the safety of the participants, the volunteers, the general public and all third parties involved.

As one of the island’s largest employers, we are very happy to be supporting Malta’s biggest international sporting event, the GiG Malta Marathon which takes place this Sunday 24 February. At GiG it’s very important to us that we do everything we can to support our community, improve our people’s wellness and work-life balance. We do it by raising the employment standards not only within our industry, but within all the locations where we work.

We’d like to extend the best of luck to all of the 5,000 runners and walkers who are participating in the marathon or half marathon including fellow iGaming company Kindred who will have a huge 57 staff running and GiG’s 48 runners including some from our Denmark, Spain and Norway offices who are coming in especially.

A few pieces of useful information:

  • Start point and time: The full marathon starts at 07:30, and the half marathon starts at 09:15 from Mdina Gate, and ending at Sliema Ferries.
